Frequently Asked Questions

What is TechySchool?

TechySchool is on online education program that is specifically designed to meet the needs of students in grades 3 through grade 12. Students are instructed and managed by licensed teachers.

My child is in grade 3. How do I know they are ready?
Great question!  For early learners, we use Blockly to teach the fundamentals.  Blockly is coding through visual blocks that the child will drag and drop and link together to form functions.  Each block represents a coding concept and allows young students to apply programming principles without having to worry about syntax or typing.  Once your child grasps Blockly they will then move into real coding.

Why should my child enrol?

Coding and programming has been recognized as a must learn skill for youth. Teachers in the school system are often not qualified to teach and this is the gap that we fill with professional teachers and a curriculum that serves children from grade 1 to grade 12.

What equipment does my child require for the program?

Ideally, we would like the student to have a newer laptop or desktop computer that is connected to the internet. The faster the computer and the internet, the better the experience will be for the student. A webcam may be helpful for teachers to connect with students during weekly updates.

How do the sessions run?

Students will have their own logins for our coding program and will have weekly assignments to work through. The assignments will include video instruction and teachers will be available to support and answer any questions that students might have. Students will do a weekly check in with their teachers on their progress.

What if my child is not working through the course content?

We will communicate with both the parents and the students during the intro course to ensure that the students are working through the course content. The goal is that the student is self motivated but we all know this may not always be the case and we may reach out for parental support if needed!

What is the refund policy?

Our program is month to month.  There are no contracts and no commitments required. If you are not 100% happy with our program in the first 30 days,  just let us know and we will offer a full refund of month one.  Any cancellations received after month one will be cancelled effective the end of your billing period without any additional fees.

How do I know my child is learning from the course?

We provide a visual example of what your child will build. At first, this won't look like much to you but at the end of the day, this will give very detailed visual of the skills they will be able to achieve through coding online.

Will I get a progress report at the end?

Parents will receive regular updates as levels are completed.

What programming languages will my child be taught?

Our programming is based on the fundamentals related to "Java, JavaScript, HTML, A-Frame and Python" coding. For details on these courses, please see our Courses Page.
